Otherlands:ONE

track 7: manyota dao jibonke

Written and translated by Arko Mukhaerjee

Only if you want you will get the treasure
If you chant his name, you will go to Brindabon
If you love (him) wholeheartedly you will go to Brindabon
Brindabon dwells in Mecca just as Mecca dwells in Brindabon
If you respect (human) life, you will go to Brindabon
My prophet embodies an ocean of love
(If you) immerse yourself in it with full consciousness
In the limitless expanse of harinaam (name of Hari)
Immerse yourself in that ocean
Every worker enjoys fruits of his labour
In loving every human being you will find Allah as well as Brindabon
Brindabon dwells in Mecca just as Mecca dwells in Brindabon...
You spend day and night talking about divides
You can be a singer or an artist, artist or a leader, singer or a leader
The chalice of your life will not be filled
Wipe the tears of your mother embrace her pain as your own
In loving every human being you will find Allah as well as Brindabon
I promise, you will go to Brindabon
Brindabon dwells in Mecca just as Mecca dwells in Brindabon
In loving every human being you will find Allah as well as Brindabon
You will reach Brindabon...

TRACK 8: AYE NAGARI

By Panjusha (or Panju Shah)

The message of this song was translated by Otherlands collaborator and dotara musician, Arpan Thakur Chakraborty.

“To the Bauls, Krishna is an important source of inspiration, a friend, and a lover. Krishna represents love to them. This song is about the simpleness of Lord Krishna, as felt and expressed by the Baul Poet Philosopher Panju Shah (Panjusha), who describes Krishna as a person that loves to roam around rather than giving importance to the priests/yogis. Bauls believe that through love one can reach to God rather than worshipping in a temple, mosque, or church.”
